Meet Iurie, a Frontend Software Engineer

Meet Iurie, a Frontend Software Engineer who joined Acre fresh out of university in October 2020.
What made you want to join Acre?
I was attracted to Acre by its mission to revolutionise the process of getting a mortgage. I thought this is an industry where I could make real impact.
Secondly, as a Frontend Engineer, Acre's modern tech stack - React, Typescript, GraphQL and Cypress - was also attractive as that meant I could work with latest cutting technologies in the field.
What does a typical day look like for you?
We usually start the day with a stand-up meeting. As a team we’ll talk about the progress made so far on a task we've been assigned, like writing code or improving performance of unit tests, any blockers and discuss what's coming up. Then I go into the deep zone of doing focused work, where I work on new features or address certain bugs.
The afternoons tend to consist of team communication on various technical problems or planning new work.

What were you doing before?
I was doing my Computer Science masters at Imperial and before that, I completed a civil Engineering degree at the University of Bath.
What’s your go-to lunch (and why)?
My go-to lunch is a cheese toastie, sounds simple but the way I do it is *chefs kiss*. I believe Nigella once described this as a ‘food for the gods’.
What’s your superpower?
I’m a good target shooter. Daniel Kahneman in his book Thinking Fast and Slow describes our brain computations as a mental shotgun, meaning our brains soften to compute much more than we want or need. I prefer target shooting and always try to stick to the problem at hand and not get distracted.
